We started getting into working around pools and cleaning up the messes the big pool companies left behind many years ago. In many cases homeowners have asked to build retaining walls, Install ornamental stone or install pavers to expand their pool deck. A couple years ago we completed a large technical pool job in Clifton Park N.Y. This job involved demolition of all existing concrete around pool and under second floor deck that was attached to house. The concrete's poor drainage design was destroying pool and foundation of residence. This job had limited access and heavy clay just under concrete. Timber & Stone designed new hardscape featuring new paver brick pool deck, bull nose coping, elaborate drainage system and low voltage lighting. We also constructed a low maintenance custom gas fire pit, seating wall and pillars. AS an add on the homeowners decided to build a new terraced pair of retaining walls, steps and a long walk to driveway. And I almost forgot, we designed an installed new plant material as well. The before and after pictures of this job can be found on our face book page, and will be coming to this web-site soon. The results are stunning!!

The advantages of installing concrete paver bricks instead of stamped concrete or regular concrete are numerous. Number one they will never crack from settlement (I'm sure we all have seen this.) Secondly getting to utilities if you ever needed to is much easier. Simply pull them up excavate and repair, and replace pavers. No worries of getting color and pattern of concrete correct to match. The cosmetic appeal is, another huge advantage, you just get a classier timeless look with the pavers. A warmer feel if you will. With the new extra strength polymeric pool we use sand in your pool after heavy use or heavy rain is a thing of the past. I've also seen many people regret the decision to go with stamped concrete due to plant material and debris getting caught in the indentations. This is less likely to happen with many paver styles giving you a clean easy to maintain surface.

More on polymeric sand: Although its been around for about 10 years polymeric stabilizing sand is becoming very popular lately. This product when installed correctly has dramatically improved the fit and finish and longevity of any paver project especially around pools. These high-tech Sand/glue/silicone/matrix's bond pavers together yet remain flexible even in our many freeze-thaw cycles. It stays in place in the toughest conditions, deters insects and prevents weed seeds from germinating. With many new colors available it lets the client or contractor fine tune the hardscape design, much like grout used in tile work. It used to be an option but at Timber & Stone we use "poly-meric sand" in all our Patio, driveway and walkway jobs, from Albany to Glens falls.

If your tearing up the area around your pool it's also a great time to think about low voltage outdoor lighting. Inexpensive and dramatically improving your dark period's curb appeal and safety we can design and install a system in house. We have scores of happy customers in Albany Latham, Clifton Park, Malta, Ballston Spa, Saratoga and Glens Falls just to name a few.
